[Movies] Baywatch Movie Moving Forward
Posted by Ashish on 07.07.2009

Paramount has hired Jeremy Garelick (The Hangover) to rewrite the script for the big screen version of Baywatch and direct the film. The original plan back in 2004 was the film to be an action film, but Paramount now has the rights (DreamWorks owned the rights back in '04) and plan to change the script to a broad comedy. This film would mark Garelick's directorial debut. Paramount is hoping that the film can be turned into a franchise.

Garelick said this about the script: "Felt like the template to do a movie that was similar to Stripes and Police Academy, the comedies I loved growing up."

The film will revolve around two lifeguard candidates trying to keep up with the pro lifeguards.

No word on if any of the original TV cast will be part of the movie.

The TV show ended up being a huge hit around the world.

If you want to make it a movie like Stripes or Police Academy, why the hell are you calling it Baywatch?! Perhaps call it Lifeguards or some shit.

This sounds shit. It was mainly action, lighthearted at times, but not a comedy. Well done Hollywood!

It will fail as a comedy Baywatch was always about action and babes and feel good story lines

I know Baywatch fans might be disappointed, but I never liked the show outside of the hot women. So this sounds like a good idea. Besides, an action show surrounding hot lifeguards just sounds like b-movie cheese. Let them make something good out of this.

Sounds like something similar to the Brady Bunch movie. Could work.

It will be the only movie to be shot in slow motion.

The Hangover + (Poilce Acadamy/Stripes premise)= Baywatch the movie(AMAZING). It sounds like gold but the execution could be a whole nother story. It could be as sad as Land of the Lost
